Hibbing Taconite is an iron ore producer that began production in 1976. The company made its first shipment to the port of Superior, Wisconsin in January, 1977.[1] It’s located in Minnesota’s Mesabi Iron Range. Currently there are 689 employees. The type of ore mined is magnetite, and in 2009, 1.7 million tons were produced.[2]

The company’s ownership shares are as follows: Cliffs- 23%; Metal Steel USA- 62.3 %; US Steel Canada- 17.7%. Cliffs Mining Company is the manager. [3]
