Of all of Hibbing's attractions the Hull Rust Mine View is one of its most famous.[1] This attraction is located at 1202 East Howard Street Hibbing, MN.[2] The mine view was made after 20,000 of Hibbing’s citizens moved 2 miles south of where they used to live.[3] Frank Hibbing received the first lease to mine Ore in the area in 1891.[4] The Hull Rust Mine View is the largest operating open pit iron ore mine in the world, it is more than 3 miles long, 2 miles wide, and 535 feet deep, and the Hibbing Taconite Company continues to expand its mining operations.[5] During its most productive years, it supplied over ¼ of the United State’s iron ore.[6]
