The Oliver Mining Company gave Hibbing High School as a gift in 1920, because Hibbing had to move for mining purposes and had to leave their previous high school behind. The high school was finished in 1922. [1] Hibbing High School is very famous for its auditorium. The auditorium is an exact replica of the Capitol Theater in New York; the auditorium has chandeliers from Belgium, 1,800 velvet seats, and a Barton pipe organ, which is one of the only two in the United States.[2] The school cost 4 million dollars to build at the time. Today, the school would cost around 50 million dollars to replace.[3] Hibbing High school defines what Hibbing was and what Hibbing still is.[4]
