The Hibbing High School mascot is a bluejacket, which comes from the fearless sailor pop eye, but what on earth is a Blue Jacket? No our mascot is not something that people wear to be “fashionable”, blue jackets are sailors. They got their name because the first uniform sanctioned for sailors in the Royal Navy was a short blue jacket open in the front[1]. It is also a generic name for what they call sailors now[2]. Blue jackets have the reputation of being strong men who can hold their own against any opponent[3]. Hibbing might have gotten its mighty name from our ability to take on any challenge with no fear.

I've heard Hibbing was supposed to be the Greyhounds originally because of the Greyhound buses, and Duluth East was supposed to be the Bluejackets because of the Duluth harbor. The papers got switched up and they just decided to keep it.
